Rotary District 6560 District Conference

“It was unlike any other Rotary District Conference I had attended before,” wrote one attendee. Rotary International Districts are compelled to produce District Conferences each year, and many of them look and feel the same as they have for years and years. For two days, Horizon Convention Center and District Governor Dale Basham hosted DistCon19 filled with music, international performers, a fashion show, entertainment, and fun-filled networking for young and old.

Unlike many lackluster events and conferences, the production value of DistCon19 was nothing short of spectacular.

Lindsey Sharp, Past President of Ball State University Rotaract wrote, “This year’s DistCon19 was nothing short of spectacular. The bringing together of people, culture, art and story is a beautiful thing – and that’s exactly what this conference was.”

The opportunity to meet Rotarians from near and far and hear the impact they’re making in their communities never ceases to amaze me, and Rotarians in District 6560 aren’t disappointing. Interactors in Montezuma are taking the time to teach those younger than them to read. Rotarians in Frankfort are instilling a passion for STEM in little ones – and Rotarians in Indianapolis are nurturing the Chin community in ways the rest of the country cannot.

From the fashion show by the Chin Community of Indiana to hearing from the District Speech Finalists, this was an incredible, entertaining way to learn all the good District 6560 is doing in our world!

Ben Polk, recent college graduate and Rotaract member had a similar reaction. “I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at my first Rotary 6560 District Conference this year. I was amazed by the number of Rotarians who attended the event.  I was also impressed by the diversity of the attendees, representing multiple clubs, cultures, religions, sexualities, ages, and ethnicities. I believe that we as people operate at our best when we allow every person a seat at the table.”

I was also inspired by the energy, stories, and passion that those in attendance had towards bringing good to the world. Everything on display at DistCon19 served as a reminder to me that I have made the right decision in jumping on board the Rotary train! I am Rotary, and I am so proud and inspired by everything happening in District 6560!

Veteran Rotarian, wife of a Past District Governor, and mother of a District Governor Elect noted, “”I had a wonderful time. It was especially wonderful to rekindle treasured Rotary friendships from days gone by and reflect on cherished moments. My Rotary friends and I shared the excitement and anticipation for the opening ceremony on Saturday. The procession of the flags was led by my son on the drum and fellow Rotarian on bagpipes. They were all clad in Highland dress. My friends and I all agreed that we wouldn’t miss this for the world!”
